Extended Disability Peer Group

The Local, through the Member Wellness Committee, hosts meetings to offer an opportunity for our members on Extended Disability Leave to network and share their experiences. The Peer Group meetings are planned by a steering committee.

The role of the committee is to plan activities for our members on EDB each school year. If you would like more information on how to become involved, please contact the Local office - info@edpub.org.

Please note that members on EDB that need to hire transportation to our events are eligible to claim up to $50 for transportation with receipts. Here is the Expense Claim Form you can use to attach to your receipt(s) and send them to info@edpub.org.

 ATA Teachers with Disabilities Network (TWD) DEN is a provincial network that provides a safe and brave space for teachers with disabilities. TWD meets regularly to provide mutual support for teachers who identify as having disabilities and their strong allies. For information on these DENs and their upcoming meetings, please reach out by email at TWD@ata.ab.ca

 FUNCTION

The function of the Extended Disability Peer Support Group of the Edmonton Public Teachers Local No. 37 of the Alberta Teachers’ Association shall be to offer collective moral support and provide an opportunity for community building through the planning of group activities and events, such as get-togethers or information events. 

OUR Core Values

  • Support the development of a healthy lifestyle with a balance of self-worth, pride and peace.

  • Empower peer support group members to advocate for their own needs by contacting Teacher Employment Services at the Alberta Teachers' Association (780-447-9400).

  • Seek to educate colleagues about the Extended Disability Support Group and encourage their participation.
