Walking Together Workshop - Jan. 31, 2018

The PD Committee is hosting a Walking Together Workshop on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 beginning at 4:30 pm in Room 412 at Barnett House. ATA Instructors from the "Walking Together" program  will lead us through a PD related to understanding the legacy of residential schools specific to Treaty 6 and in accordance with the draft requirements of the Teacher Quality Standard Document. PD Book Study - A Life in Pieces - Feb. 1, 2018

PD Fund for Teacher Observation Release Time 

At it's June 2016 meeting, the Council of School Representatives (CSR) approved a $50,000 fund for teachers to access to observe colleagues in their classrooms. Funds will be divided between two rounds of $25,000 each. Round one to be completed no later than January 31st; round two to be completed no later than June 15th. Please review the guidelines before applying.

 New Teachers

The Local, in partnership with the Edmonton Public School Board, provides support to the New Teacher Induction Program through a $30,000 financial commitment.

The Local provides release time, on a first-come, first-served basis, for 20 new teachers that have registered for the provincial ATA Beginning Teachers’ Conference at the end of September. To be eligible for the funding, ensure that principals contact the Local office with the names of those attending the Beginning Teachers’ Conference. 


The Local offers a Professional Development Grant-in-aid which is available for teachers to use toward conferences and/or seminars. Members that meet the eligibility requirements are included in a random draw at the end of May. Applications are available from the Local's office. The Professional Development Committee will offer workshops free of charge throughout the year.

Teacher Webinars

The Alberta Teachers' Association and the Alberta Regional Professional Development Consortia are sponsoring a project that will feature webinars designed to support Alberta teachers entitled, "Teacher Talks: Enhancing Teacher Professional Practice."
